By my estimation, one of CALs top 10 blunders, along with chosing Condon as a go between, was enlisting the aid of Mickey Rosner and the mob.
What better way than this to irritate and anger the establiched Police forces, and Buyreau of Investigation of the USA, and at the same time scare the hell out of any would be kidnappers than bringing in these killers. Dont leave out Owney Madden--the pure equivalent of Al "Scarface" Capone in the NY City area. Maybe CAL thought these guys would get Charlie back in the nick of time to save thier own skins?
If you really wanted to ignore and violate every provision of the Nursery Note...eg to keep things under the radar and on the QT sos to get Charlie back alive and well, well this takes the cake.
CAL proclaims that he doesnt want the NJSP triying to catch the nappers, and at the same time brings out the Mob and gives them money and carte blance to go after the kidnappers. Turn over every rock until they are found.
1. Does bringing in the Mob mean that CAL is hell bent to get Charlie back on his own without Police help? Like a big macho cowboy pilot Dad should? Even if Charlie gets killed?
2. Does bringing in the Mob exonerate CAL of complicity in Chalries disappearance by indicating that he is really looking everywhere for him?
3. Does bringing in the Mob prove the lie and hoax real by NOT following the Nursery Note and throwing all caution and Charlie Jr to the winds of fate?
4. Does bringing in the Mob indicate that CAL thinks Al Capone has Charlie and CAL can get him back without giving Al a get-out-of -jail free card?
5. Or was it all just a big publicity stunt keep CAL and Charlie in the newpapers? Keep it all up in the air until Condon takes over in the Bronx?
