Of the many witnesses Hudson was one of the most honest. He is famous for raising over 500 fingerprints on the ladder one week after the kidnap with silver nitrate. He had studied fingerprinting for years. When Hudson asked if BRHs fingerprints were found among the 500 and the answer was no then he said "Youve got the wrong man"! He even found Bornmanns prints on the ladder. 30-40 good latent prints were never sent to the Bureau in Wash DC by Schwartzenkopf who was buzy protecting CAL. Wilitz thought that Hudson would testify for the prosecution but due to the heavy reliance on totally circumstantial evidence Hudson ended up being a hostile witness to Wilentz/ AFter BRHs conviction Hudson teamed up with Gov. Harold Hoffman to try and get BRHs conviction overturned. Hudson did not play favorites, he played to the Truth and Science.

Amen for Hudson! Too bad it didn't work. There were a lot of NJ State policemen who knew Hauptmann was innocent, but they weren't allowed to reveal that fact. I'm not sure where I read that, but it does sound like a logical-enough fact, gathering from the way the storm clouds were gathering. anne50

Ana/ in the same vein Im certain I read somewhere about police laughter about the planting of Rail 16 up in BRHs attic--but I cant find the quote a second time. Maybe this explains why the New York City Lindbergh files have never been transferreed to the Lindbergh Archives in Wilburtha?

There is so much about that rail that is questionable. How many people tramped thru that attic how often and it went unnoticed for days that there was an empty space!!!! And I still can't figure out how Richard managed to do the deed with out anyone (i.e. Anna or his landlady) knowing. I'm sorry - if someone is sawing in my attic, I'm going to know it!!! And how long was this board? ? Picture this - Anna sitting feeding Bubbie. "Richard, dear - what is all that noise?" "Oh, nothing, My Pet. Just tinkering." Minutes later - "Richard, is that a board you're carrying? ? What the devil are you doing with that?" "Oh, nothing, Lovie!! I'm just taking it out to the garage so as not to clutter the attic." Get serious!!! I'd bet the farm that that board was cut long after the Hauptman's were removed from the house!!!

minnie/ it gets even better than that! Hows about taking down all the shelves and everything on them and piling it up in the hallway......then going up the shelf brackets with a saw in hand? then tossing the 8 ft board down. the limit on length is waht will fit down thru the trapdoor.
Its so far out there to be considered impossible. And what pray tell for....to get a board you could just as easily gotten from the basement, the yard, the garage, the lumber yard? Not so bad if its already a 1 X 4 but now we have to trim it down?
Only one man and one man alone could find the open space in the attic. The same man that found the ladder in CALs yard and had his fingerprints all over it! LJB
