Hi Rita/ did Don Keyhoe know the guy that drank the kerosene. Would he be likely to help the women spirit Chalrie away from CAL?

Rita to Rick Don was in group pictures with Lindbergh and pilots, and he most likly knew Bud Gurney. Since he was visiting Anne that kidnap aftrernoon he would be there at the right time for the nursery cleanup. I've read that Lindbergh went to an ailine office, an attorney, and the Rockefeller Foundation that day, and wonder what would have been the reason for Keyhoe beating him home that day?

Rita/ do you think Keyhoes visit to Highfields was commone knowledge on that day? At that time. Or was it revealed later in Annes memoirs? It is wierd to me that his name seldom came up by the cops or that he should be interviewed. Keyhole gives Shippell, the crazy down the road, crediblity, by seeing someones face in the Window. is this just another Red Herring? Noone said Keyhoe was there when CAL came home, this story is becoming like Peyton Place? Did Keyhoe snatch Charlie for Anne and Betty to spite CAL...i would like that plot.

To Rick It seems like an excuse for Keyhoe to say there was a strange figure at the window, and his time of visit is the most plausible kidnap time. This time also allows Anne and Betty time to clean the nursery of fingerprints and footprints. It seems that the blanket holding pins are put in proper place by an employee not a kidnapper. Anne realizing that Keyhoe's statement will not be a convinceing story places the Schippell ladder at the nursery window leaving the small footprint in the process. Anne latter tells the story she threw stones at the nursery window to attract Charlie leaving the footprint.

Yes, this works for me. But we still have to get inside of CALs mind to see if he knew where Chalrie was/ My guess from all his wierd behavior is NO? Thats just my read. Either CAL is as great an actor as Betty Gow, or he was stung bad by Charlies disappearance and wanted to get him back ASAP. This would be evidenced by hiring all the mobsters to confirm or deny that Al Capone stole Charlie to get out of jail for free/ All the mobsters turn up a big fat zero.
This means to me, and others, that Amateurs stole Chalrie right out from under CALS nose.
Keyhole is not mentioned in most books/ Who knew he was there that afternnon? Who revealed later he was there....Anne?
Then....professionals tried to collect the ransom and did! With no Charlie in tow! Just a bunch of Dr. Denton sleeping suites.

It was revealed by Keyhoe himself in his book about working with Lindbergh. The book is available from Amazon, but do not recall it's exact title.

Rita/ i found an interesting point in Inspector Harry Walshes articles in The Jersey Journal in November 1932.
Walsh claims CAL was home once in the afternoon of Tuesday 1 March? Did he meet Keyhoe there. Then CAL leaves and comes back when we all know at 0830pm?
Noone has ever mentioned this before although Michael claims that Charlie Jr. was gone before CAL came back?
Was this part of the coverup which occurs before the official start of the kidnapping at 0930. this matches up nicely with Cleanup of the Crimescene...something the innocent never do/ only the guilty.

I noticed in rereading Anne's diary of thta day that she says she and Cal had dinner at 8:30 and then went upstairs; nothing about their little chat in the livingroom when CAL "heard" the wood break and pinpointed the time of the disapearence. she in fact says "we had dinner and went upstairs at 9:15. There are many discrepencies in her accounts (written at the time) and I wonder why anyone as private and xenophobic as Anne would decide to publish her diaries of all things in the 1970s

To guest If I were writing a plays stage adaptation, their story of going upstairs after dinner would need a description line that tells the actors, proceed upstairs as nothing happened. It does appear as the Lindbergh's wrote and acted out their alibi's for that evening.

Hi Rita/ In spite of senility Donald Keyhoe was at Highfields recently. But maybe not the day of the snatch? Im getting a feeling that Charlie was "normal" or appearing so for him, in Mid February judging by the statements of Will Rogers, Dr. VanIngen and Keyhoe. They could be being overtly kind and generous with regard to Charlies demeanor. VanIngen would have a huge stake in being evasive and not tesitfying to protect the family.
Something untoward could have happened to Charlie in the two week gap between 18 feb-1 March. A fall, an accident, down the stairs, in the driveway, in a car? Some sort of tragedy. This precipitates hospitalization and the kidnap hoax.
At what precise moment in time does everyone realize that Charlie is dead? In spite of all the proclamations by CAls paid Towne Cryers that Charlie is "alive and well"--by March 12th even CJ knows there is no hope for Charlie. (Condon John?) Maybe even before March 1st?

There is still that unknown issue, alive or dead-kidnapped or hidden, and I still believe they had advance knowledge of a threat. What they actually did to overcome that threat could make the difference between alive or dead. They let the guard go, but made different overnight stay plans and shifted employees around, but without explanation was the militia already in place around the house or was CAL thinking he could do a better job with his trusty shotgun? It is not known if he let the guard go because something had already happened, or perhaps Charley had been either moved to safety or already missing.

Good point Rita, with so many letters pouring into Highfields every day, some proportion of which must be threats and kidnap demands (none after ! March 32)? Oh just one?
I always thought that both families , in any sort of crisis , would first think of the vacation island up in Maine where Betty Gow babysat/ opere'd Charlie last summer. Wouldnt that be logical and the most safe? But, you have to "drive Charlie" up there through all the ciites in CONNECTICUT that mail etc arrives from to get there now dont you?
Stamford, Norwalk, New Haven and Hartford!! Get on board the train! john Sasser noted on Ronelles board on Thur September 29th 2005: (Condon goes to CT, Fisch goes to CT, Red goes to CT)
"I also would be interested in the Renyard's whereabouts too. I have always thought that Red Johnson was not checked out nearly as much as he should have been. I know CAL put a lot of pressure on the police not to do so, but those two postcards from Newark and West Hartford, CT , addressed to Col. Linburg, Princeton, N.J. are too much coincidence for me. "Baby Safe " and "Baby still safe", mailed March 2nd AM in Newark, and March 4th in Hartford, the exact whereabouts of Red Johnson on each day....man, that is unbelievable.
I also think only a sailor of those waters in Mass. would know the terms which appeared in the St. Raymond's "boad nelly" note: Horseneck Beach, St. Elizabeth Islands, and Gay Head. Lindbergh would have known them. He sailed right thru there on the Mouette honeymoon trip. "
So where did all these references to Connecticut come from anyways. Even this week we have a report of the Annes car accident with Alfred Denzler reported in the Hartford Times?
Maybe Edgar Cayce wasnt so far off? If Charlie was going to be hiden on North Haven Island up in Maine then someone would have to drive him thru all these cities to get there. Right up the East Coast thru Connecticut!

It does seem as a logical route for safety, but if Charley was taken that far it is unlikely they would bring a body back to mount rose. If CAL did not investigate the cards about Charley's condition it had to be with his approval. If Charley was sent to Connecticut for safety was he kidnapped from there or was that his get away point?

Hi rita/ well something has to happen since life doenst occur in any void.
Maybe Red sending back the postcards "Baby alive and well" is just a variation on a common theme:
Jafsie--"Baby alive and well" Rosner--"Baby alive and well" Curtis--"Baby alive and well" CAL--the sleeping suit confirms:"baby alive and well"? [this all looks like a well coordinated PR campaign to me]
Meanwhile...back at the ranch, Charlie never leaves Hopewell.
Also, heres another curveball--Ernie Brinkers alibi puts him in [glow=red,2,300]Bridgeport, CT [/glow]on the nite of 1 March 32! (NYTimes June 12th 1932)
Do You Believe That?
do you get my drift?
