Anne, it was convient to have a home made "ladder' to identify Hauptmann and a home made shirt to identify charlie. both of which look like they were thrown together at the last minute.

Kathy, I've never thought of it that way before, but it's true. That shoddy ladder nailed Hauptmann (sorry for the pun) and didn't the "special thread" enable Betty Gow to identify Charlie?

Yes, it was English blue silk; you know how those Morrow/Lindbergh carried household goods with them every where they went. Like Violet and her poison, Elsie and her thread and of course, Betty Gow who came to Hopewell at the last minute remembered to throw in an old "gown" in case she needed to make an extra little shirt for the no longer sick baby. Maybe she knew he would be on a little adventure that night?

Betty Gows Journey...wherever she is something is happening! How many times in 20 months did she make Charlie a niteshirt w/ blue threads? How many thumbguards were found anywhere else on the property? If Dr. VanIngen cant identify Charlie then why the niteshirt? Was there some way to "forsee" identifying the blue threads. So reminiscent of the Dr. Denton sleeping suite. Why not Charlies fingerprints? Oh yes, his/her hands were missing? And his nursery wiped clean of prints too. Didnt anyone mention birthmarks? The board in the attic is a tough nut to crack. the lies are cleverly concealed. Just like the handwriting, the absolute positive ids follow the ransom money in the garage because "we all know it must be BRH now"! Finding the money results shortly in finding Rail 16. Its really handy to have space on either end for adjustment purposes. Need to make those joists line up. Pieces like Rail 12 and 13 were supposedly found sticking right out into the aisles at the lumberyards after 30 months? Practically a miracle. BUT, its said to be impossible for S-226 to be sticking out of the next bin over? Hows that? "Just make that ladder fit the house"/

Wood and nails taken from Hauptmann's attic to make a kidnap ladder, a ladder that any carpenter with any pride in his work whatsoever would never have made. How convenient to have this joke of a ladder handy to use against Hauptmann! Hauptmann looked at the ladder used as evidence against him and said it looked like a musical instrument.
This comment is a paraphrased comment of the one I used to begin the thread on April 2, 2006. Kathy was the first to reply, etc. anne50
